ENTP: Thought Experimenter

ENTP

ENTPs love to think, and they are always willing to be innovative.

But thinking all the time isn’t enough to change reality.

This article explains these problems of ENTPs and describes how to improve them.

ENTPs Live by Intuition

ENTP is a personality type that combines an extroverted intuition with thinking.

Extroverted intuition, that is, the intuition is directed outward, means that they view the world intuitively and live intuitively.

Imagine the following situation.

Suppose there is a bridge made of stone across a river.

You have to cross the bridge to get to the other side of the river, but you are worried that the bridge will break.

In such a case, people of the extroverted sensation type would try hitting the stone bridge or stepping on it hard with their feet to see if it would break.

That means physically checking

However, extroverted intuitive people glance at the stone bridge, and if it seems sturdy, they will cross it without hesitation.

This is because their intuition is whispering in their ears,

“This stone bridge is sturdy.”

Of course, intuition is sometimes wrong

In the case of ENTPs, in addition to these outward intuitions, they also have the logical function of thinking, so they will think the following in their minds.

From a structural point of view, the bridge is probably safe.

There is at most a 1% chance that the bridge will fail…

I think even this logic is intuition to the average person

.

In other words, in their case, there is some thoughtful basis, not mere guesswork.

Also, when intuition is added to normal thinking, the speed of thinking becomes very fast.

In fact, ENTPs are characterized by their quick thinking.

And many of them talk fast.

notes

After reading the ESTJ description on this page, you may feel it does not apply to you.

In that case, there is a possibility that the result of the test is wrong.

If so, please read the following article.

Here is the most important thing to know about personality tests.

Taking personality tests can be harmful!

Weaknesses: Sensation and Feeling

Here is a diagram of ENTP personality functions using Jungian psychology concepts.

(This is different from the interpretation in the MBTI)

As shown in the diagram above, intuition and thinking functions are in the realm of consciousness and are already well-developed.

Therefore, the owner of this personality is familiar with handling those two functions.

However, sensation and feeling are in the realm of unconsciousness and are not developed yet.

Problems related to these underdeveloped areas are a real weakness for this type of person.

However, having these weaknesses isn’t a problem in itself.

Not realizing that you have such weaknesses is the real problem.

It is so hard to develop functions that you aren’t good at.

However, just by being aware that you have such a weakness, you can change your way of life.

People Who Like to Plan Rather Than Act

The ENTP way of life is as follows.

First, they think of various solutions in their head

Then they put them into action.

They sometimes even try to only simulate in their minds and never actually act.

This is because they have too many ideas and can only try some of them.

Or in many cases, they can only finish some of them.

Because they often come up with another idea before they get one thing done

When people have a problem, they try to solve it.

That’s the same for ENTPs.

But for ENTPs, it’s much more important to think of solutions than to actually solve things.

Moreover, this type of person tends to stick to creative solutions rather than solutions taught by others.

ENTPs are indifferent to “the way others taught them” or “the traditional way of doing things.”

They prefer to solve problems in their original way if possible.

Furthermore, ENTPs aren’t satisfied with just one good solution.

They keep thinking,

“There must be a better way to solve this problem…”

This type of person loves to think of solutions in their mind.

“If we do it this way, we can solve this.”

…or

“Another way would solve that one.”

They keep thinking these thoughts over and over in their minds.

It is as if they have a laboratory in their minds where they invent “problem-solving methods.”

Or they are like philosophers who are innovative in their thinking but don’t try to realize their ideas in their lives.

Rationality is More Important than Emotion

ENTPs are basically strong in thinking.

Therefore, when considering solutions to problems, they use the following criteria

Rational or irrational?

Logical or illogical?

Right or wrong?

Conversely, they don’t make decisions based on emotional aspects, such as

Like or dislike?

Whether or not we can sympathize with it?

Whether or not it will hurt someone’s feelings?

Also, ENTPs are extroverts who are honest in putting their thoughts out there.

They are also confident, so they are the type of people who say things clearly.

So, some people may have this impression of ENTPs.

He’s funny, but his way of speaking is too straightforward.

He just thinks it’s good to be honest

How ENTPs Can Put Their Potential to Work

Work is more or less about solving people’s problems.

ENTPs, however, have a slightly different view of work.

Rather than “solving something for others,” they consider it their job to “think of a better solution.”

For example, it is like a person who realizes that his room is dirty, gets absorbed in inventing a vacuum cleaner, and never starts cleaning it.

Seeing such an ENTP, one might think,

“After all, this person is trying to escape reality.”

“He likes to think, but he doesn’t seem to have the ability to do it.”

But the ENTP type thinks as follows.

“Anyone can clean a house.

But only I can invent the vacuum cleaner.”

Thus, this ENTP continues to make several prototypes of vacuum cleaners.

However, he could never make one that truly satisfies himself.

So he continued to devote himself to the creation of vacuum cleaners.

But eventually, he got tired of making vacuum cleaners and stopped making them.

Of course, the room is still not cleaned…

Now, what can ENTPs do to improve these problems on their own?

For example, they should try to do at least the following three things.

After thinking about it for a while, try to take action.

Don’t aim for perfection from the beginning.

Set a deadline for thinking about it in advance.

By being aware of these three points, ENTPs can change the impression they give to those around them, namely, that they are motivated but don’t finish their work.

Not only that, they will be able to improve their abilities more.

Summary of ENTP type

ENTPs are like people passionate about car maintenance who don’t drive their cars permanently.

By changing such habits, ENTPs can better demonstrate their abilities in the real world.

Now a final point to note.

Intuitive type, but also logical.

Stick to solutions but cannot implement them.

Tend not to consider others’ feelings.

Sometimes overthinks things and never gets them done.

Doesn’t strive for perfection.

Should set deadlines for thinking.
